Cars in the early 90’s were smaller and more efficient than today’s vehicles. Why are we sold hybrid vehicles as some sort of advancement, when the 1990 Honda Civic was capable of 45 mpg with a conventional motor? What kind of mileage would a 1990 honda Civic hybrid achieve?

Your question seems to be a valid one .O.K.,The difference is:People want a new car not one thats 18 years old. New cars have all the new stuff thats cool. They weigh more. They’re faster ,smarter, and more reliable than a 90 honda civic. The emmissions from them is almost nonexistent. You probably couldn’t use one to kill yourself if you locked yourself in a garage with the motor running. There’s gointg to be alot of dissapointed suicidal individuals in the future? The MPG you seem conerned about won"t be Much greater. However the new generation aware of what older cars & trucks are doing to the enviorment. It makes them feel good that they are driving a "GREEN" car.OH, YEAH :The answer to your question:About 60 MPG.Don’t worry you’re doing enough for the enviorment by driving a old car.New cars take natural resources to manufacture.

Not sure. My 99 Civic five speed gets 34 mpg, with 148,000 miles on it.

Cars in the 90’s were light weight with fewer creature comforts, safety features and smaller gas tanks. Emisions control has a lot to do with it too.
